How to find a safe spot to hide from my bullies

Do you know where to go to find a safe spot? Safe spots are a business, church or some form of pubic place that has agreed to be a safe place for young people to run to if they are being bullied and need to get help.

In our small town we have several safe spots. There is some training involved, but the biggest part is being there so the person that is under attack by the bully is not alone. This is a great program.

There is one type of bully who it is harder to find a safe spot to run from though, that is the bully with which I struggle.

This bully always knows when I’m at my weakest and will swoop in for the attack.

My bully can find me no matter where I hide. I even let him in, feed him and agree with what he has to say about me, because maybe it’s true.

My bully lives inside of me. It is the words that repeat in my head that maybe were said by some heartless or mean person in my life.

I repeat them now; I hang on to them and agree that maybe they were right.

How do you find a safe spot from yourself? From your very own thoughts?

You run to the Father. In His Word you find the safe spot where you can take refuge from the tormentors of this life. Even if it is yourself that keeps telling the lies.

Psalm 56 is a prayer from David when he was captured by the Philistines in Gath.

Ps 56:1 “Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; Fighting all day he oppresses me.”

Ps 56:3 “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.”

Ps 56:5 “All day they twist my words; All their thoughts are against me for evil.”

Ps 56:11 “In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”

Ps 56:13 “For You have delivered my soul from death. Have You not kept my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?”

This Psalm is just one example of a good place to go when you need a safe spot. When the old recording starts to play in your head and the enemy wants you to believe that you are crap.

I love the Psalms, in my study bible right at the beginning of Psalms it gives a break down of the types of Psalms. So I can run to a particular kind of Psalms depending on the bully that is after me at the time. What do I need to get out of it? Is it God’s deliverance, or be made aware of God’s blessings or to know that God will pass judgment against His enemies. A great study bible is a must have in the battle of this life. As my honey always says “don’t fight naked.”

In this life we will have trouble, some we make our self and we need to let God’s Word heal us and remember that we are all created in His image so don’t let your bully win.
